Returning to Dubbo after his 2011 hit show, Don’t Shoot Me, I’m Only The Piano Player, David Scheel brings us his latest masterpiece, Maestro, Maestro in which he brings to life 25 of music’s greatest and weirdest personalities in a virtuoso performance of hilarious stories, character acting, singing and piano playing panache – illustrating why David is regarded worldwide as the successor to the legendary Victor Borge.
From the love lives of Liszt and Al Jolson through the world’s worst singers and the most accident-prone opera moments to the testy prima donnas from classics to pop and the secrets of music’s nuttiest composers, performers and conductors such as Toscanini who managed to lose an entire orchestra in the desert - David reveals and impersonates each of these with pinpoint musical accuracy both on the piano and in character.
But amid the fun there are serious moments, including David’s suite on environmental themes, A Hymn for Planet Earth, which has already brought standing ovations on 12 USA tours, as well as at home in Australia. Recently televised in America on cable, Maestro, Maestro will make you laugh a lot, cry a little and marvel at the beauty of the piano when played by a master.
